Projects::Bare Foot Doctors - Bharat Vaidya - 2005

Maharashtra Foundation implemented its own Bare Foot Doctors (Bharat Vaidya) in partnership with Halo Medical Foundation

Bharat Vaidyas: Affordable and accesible healthcare is often a luxury in rural India. The HALO Medical Foundation (HMF), a registered public charitable trust working in Anadur, Maharashtra, is striving to bring quality of healthcare to where it is needed the most - Villages of India. Spearheaded by Drs. Mr & Mrs. Ahankari, the organization implements a cariety of innovative and practical programs.

Bharat Vaidya: A cadre of trained community health workers (primarily women), who provide basic healthcare and health education at low cost to the rural poor. Trained women treat over 75% of locally prevalent diseases.The project trained additional Bharat Vaidyas so as to cover larger geographic area. As leaders in the community, Bharat Vaidyas are in unique position to motivate their fellow village women to empower themselves economically through participation in self help groups. To this end, they also arrange loan for income generating activities such as dairy and animal husbandry projects, and small business activities.
